LAW ENFORCEMENT

Law Enforcement occupations exist in local, city, county, state and federal agencies. These agencies can offer a wide array of options in the path your career can take. Promotional opportunities, movement to specialized units, training, education, incentive pay, good salaries and benefits are offered and can vary with the type and size of agency chosen.

Explorer (14-17 yrs old) and Cadet (17-21 yrs old) Programs are often available within agencies. These programs can not only allow you to see elements of the job first-hand, but can also greatly improve your chances of being hired.

Requirements (vary by agency):

City, County, State:

  • Written Exam

  • Physical Ability Test

  • Psychological Exam

  • Oral Interviews

  • Lie Detector Test

  • Background Check

  • Police Officer's Standards and Training Certificate (P.O.S.T.)

  • PC832 Firearms Course

Federal (City & State requirements, and):

  • 4 year college degree

  • 3 years work experience (or 7 years previous law enforcement experience)
